Packing and Moving Tips
1. Try to use moving boxes, not boxes you get at the supermarket or liquor store. Moving boxes are sturdier and will better protect your valuables.
2. Use sheets, blankets, pillows, towels and such to separate fragile objects.
3. Pack dishes and other glass objects vertically, rather than flat.
4. Use smaller boxes for heavy items. If you cannot lift it easily it's probably too heavy.
5. Label all boxes with their contents so you can easily determine where to put the boxes in your new home. Identify items you'll need early as "Open Me First". Have them loaded on the truck last so they come off first.
6. Consider carrying with you any items that you will need to have available as soon as you arrive at your new home. The movers could be delayed unexpectedly, and this way you are prepared.
7. Keep your pets out of the packing area, and out of the packing boxes.
8. Pack your old phonebook so you can easily reach businesses and friends from your old neighborhood when you arrive to your new home.
9. If you are using professional packers and movers, work with them so you are aware of how things are packed and identified. Check the inventory sheets carefully and get explanations for anything you don't understand.
10. If you are moving a long distance you should be aware that other people's household items may be shipped on the same truck. If this is the case, be especially careful in checking the inventory lists at your new home.
